Traditionally, Nolwynn value fertility, family, and pregnancy. They have an extensive vocabulary reflecting these states:

  • Kweynyeey: to be pregnant, literally “to create,” derived from the word kwey “womb”
  • kweynyomeey: to be pregnant with twins/multiples
  • Unizšé eeyr or nonimoreltxa zyóleey : to menstruate
  • Uakwuo [unizšé], uakwunizšé: menstrual blood
  • uakwira: to orgasm – Nolwynn traditional medicine believes that female orgasm is key to a healthy pregnancy
  • núla atš tšoraneey: to give birth [to], literally “lead into the light”
  • kweynabareey: to be fertile or capable of reproduction
  • Two eeyr: to ovulate
  • Tšyxaramitaba eeyr: to implant [an embryo in a uterus], to attach to the wall of a uterus

These verbs can be further modified with infixes which are only used for the fertility verbs:

  • olya: happily
  • abya: for the first time
  • orya: with fear
  • ama: at the same time as someone else
  • uzšw: late, late in the season
  • azšw: on time, in a favorable season
  • wuya: with good omens
  • weyya: with bad omens
  • uya: painfully

In recent years, many young Nolwynn have become more accepting of relationships that can't produce children due to infertility or homosexuality. Some Nolwynn have also decided that they do not want children. As a result, the fertility vocabulary and the ritual language surrounding it have been altered, replaced with ones for sexuality, or in some cases abandoned all together.
