PERFPerfect (aspect/tense)have verb-ed.PREPresent can be rendered in different ways depending on the dialect and the verb type.
[top]Movement verbs
Movement verbs in the occidental dialects use the PASSPassive voice (valency)
be verb-ed.PREPresent as their semantic perfective, corresponding to "be.PRSPresent tense (tense) (verb).PSPARTPast participle", whereas the oriental dialects use the EMPEmphatic
stressed or emphasised.PSTPast (tense)
action occurred before moment of speech as "be.PSTPast (tense)
action occurred before moment of speech (verb).PPARTPresent participle".
speaker, signer, etc.; I come.PSPARTPast participle - I have come (Occ. Ban.)
action occurred before moment of speech.1SFirst person singular (person)
speaker, signer, etc.; I come.PPARTPresent participle - I have come (Ori. Ban.)
[top]Action verbs
Action verbs consistently form their semantic perfective with the EMPEmphatic
stressed or emphasised.PREPresent.PASSPassive voice (valency)
be verb-ed, namely "be.PREPresent be.PPARTPresent participle (verb).PSPARTPast participle".
speaker, signer, etc.; I be.PPARTPresent participle make.PSPARTPast participle - I have made
[top]Ambiguities
Similarly to the French perfective sometimes being confused as a passive form, Banatian thus has three potential conflicts between what is referred to as the "canonical construction", or theoretical meaning given the grammatical construction, and the "semantic construction", or pure meaning implied by that construction. Either can be used in any circumstances, the distinction being cleared up by context.
I am moved (canonical) / I have moved (semantic)
I was moving (canonical) / I have moved (semantic)
I am being made (canonical) / I have made (semantic)
