This was the first translation after the initial post, and it looks like other than assigning "short" to the saw rather than the hissing, and thinking the "become louder" applied to both clauses (since otherwise the first clause didn't appear to have a verb), I was reasonably close.

This translation uses a much more informal register than the first XAS translation. Informal XAS relies much less on circumpositions to distinguish case and part of speech, and instead stacks bare word elements to form long, head-final (OVS) compounds. Technically, the first and second clauses of this translation are each single compound words, that just happen to be written broken up into their component elements as a custom of orthography.
Since un-circumposited XAS words (except conjunctions and circumpositions themselves) have no inherent part of speech, I glossed the words playing verb roles in this translation as gerunds (that is, as nouns) for consistency. (I could instead have "verbified" the glosses of the "nouns" and "pronouns", but that would have been less comprehensible.)
