The earliest archaeological evidence of elves on the subcontinent of Vorania date back circa 40,000 years, although widespread colonization is only believed to have started some 10,000 years ago. During this time of the earth's history, the last Ice Age was still ongoing, and the sea levels were considerably lower as a result. This is theorized to have revealed a string of islands between Vorania in the north and Aralia in the south, where the elven race originated. This would have made it far easier for the elves to island hop northward until they hit upon the new continent. With time they would populate and dominate large parts of southern Vorania, and expand even further, even into Achiatis and Elouriam where some elven groups still live and thrive.
One question which has long puzzled archaeologists is why, if elves were able to migrate northward, were humans unable to migrate southward, to Aralia? To this date no evidence has been found of prehistorical humans inhabiting that part of the world. There have been several theories put forth over the years, with experts unable to agree on one most likely. Some believe that climate and geography have played parts, that perhaps the south of Vorania lacked the vegetation to construct reliable watercraft due to a more arid climate (this has been generally discredited since Vorania during said era would have been far more green and humid than today). Other believe that similar circumstances, an arid climate and long periods of drought drove the elves to cross the ocean in search of "greener pastures", so to speak. This too is yet to be sufficiently proved. Perhaps the humans simply opted to expand via the land route, north into Achiatis and Elouriam, rather than braving the expansive sea. Perhaps we will never know.
The elves developed and flourished in many cases side by side with humans, as well as in isolated tribes and other types of communities. The list of elven kingdoms and city states situated in Vorania, as well as small villages and nomadic groups. Not to forget the sizable population of elves in the Kadeni River Valley, one of the most prominent ancient civilizations. In time, however, tensions grew between humans and elves. Humans would come to be the dominant race in , and elves were relegated to being either slaves or persecuted. By the time of the start of the Common Era, elven resistance had become organized enough to actively counter the Voranian kingdoms. The legendary warlord Maros, one of the most central figures in Vorano-elven history and mythology, was famously the one to lead the various free elven tribes to victory after victory, demanding the freedom of all elven slaves in all the cities and countries they subjugated. He also led them in an exodus southward, back to Aralia. There, through a long history of conflict as well as peaceful coexistence with the aboriginal Aralian elves (all those tribes which had not migrated across the ocean thousands of years earlier), the Voranian elven, or, as they would come to call themselves, the Anari civilization was able to flourish on its own.
