About Tuszalgo
Tuszalgo is a partially artificial language spoken in a fantasy world I am developing.
It was originally developed by an underground cult as a cryptotlect with ceremonial purposes. The intent, stemming from a long tradition of cults using cryptolects , was to "purify" their spoken language, Tovagian (a language of the Cosquian family) of foreign influence, especially Iscran (a Víkrallian language), which is the liturgical language of their oppressors. To do this, the cultists created calques and doublets from words of closely related languages such as Dòmnol and Cornic. Many neologisms were also derived from Coteruthe, the last "pure" Cosquian language before the Víkrallian influence began.
This philological project eventually grew beyond its original intent, the grammar and phonology were reformed and the language transformed into something quite unlike Tovagian.
Tuszalgo uses its own type of "ladder-script", a common script popularised by its versatile use in decorative writing such as for tattoos and murals. Most of the characters used in Tuszalgo Script were based on those appearing in the Cosquian Ladder Syllabary, which was used to write Classical Coteruthe.
