About St. Martiner Creole St. Martiner Creole (or Martinese) is a creole spoken in an alt-history on the Caribbean island of Saint Martin. Although the island was shared by two nations (the French and the Dutch) during much of its history, approximately 90% of Martinese vocabulary is of Dutch origin with French, Spanish, English and various West African languages serving as substrata.

Much like Haitian Creole, Martinese developed due to contact between enslaved Africans and Dutch settlers. Martinese is somewhat intelligible with standard Dutch, albeit with a simpler, and sometimes unique, grammar.
