About Igatalian Igatalian is spoken by Ygdralians. It's a ergative-absolutise language with two very distinct dialects – Northern and Southern Igatalian. Northern dialect is more conservative and has preserved grammatical gender as well as long vowels from Old Igatalian whereas Southern dialect has lost neutral gender and long vowels have changed to diphthongs. Northern dialect also retains dative case from Old Igatalian which is lost in Southern dialect. The case inflections have undergone massive sound changes in the Southern dialect and have become almost unrecognisable. The speakers of these dialects can hardly understand each other. As Igatalian present culture prefers the Southern dialect, the use of the Northern dialect has decreased. However, old (often religious) texts are written in Old Igatalian which is close to the Northern dialect, and learning to read those text is mandatory, so that the Northern dialect remains quite vital.

[edit] [view] Pákita-Íkadal (Northern-Igatalian)This dialect is more conservative than "standard Igatalian". It has preserved long vowels that have changed to diphthongs in standard language and features some grammatical features that are considered archaic amongst the standard Igatalian speakers.
[edit] [view] Kuar-Vagad (South Igatalian)This is the standard written language of Igatalian, although Northern dialect is also commonly used by its speakers. It has gone through heavy sound changes and is much more innovative than its counterpart.
