Welcome, traveler, to the Annyar Empire!

  • Topic-focus-comment word order
  • Non-configurational syntax
  • Lots of stem alternation encoding tense, voice, and plurality
  • Moraic pitch accent
  • Highly complex participle grammar including adverbials and predicatives
  • Clause chaining
  • 384 individual verb forms (highly fusional of course), not including pronominal inflection
  • And way, way too many promiscuous clitics. That's right, clitics. I'm watching you.

In-universe, Annikvara is the language of the  Annyar Empire, a quiet people devoted to the arts and sciences, and entirely willing to steal the knowledge about those arts and sciences from anyone who happens to have it. Outside of Annyar, the only knowledge of the language comes from people who just want to know the name for something that no other language could reasonably have a name for. Annikvara is the language that I'm spending most of my time on right now. It's also by far my most developed language, and one of my favorites.

A link to the full grammar is here, and it is possible to comment on any portion of it. I would love some feedback!

[edit] [view] Pēkkuŋa (Paikene)Paikene is spoken on the island of Paika, off the coast of Annyar's main peninsula. Paikene hovers on the edge of being its own language, but is regarded as a dialect by the empire.
