About Not-Canonical Northern Amaian
An Amaian language, a close relative of Not-Canonical Amaian and Not-Canonical Eastern Amaian. Northern Amaian is spoken in the north of Old Amaia, mainly along rivers, and is also spoken in pockets of extreme northwest Yerlan. As an Amaian language, Northern Amaian is ultimately descended from Proto-Pemme, and is distantly related to Thuun, Elipa, and Ezian, among others.
Northern Amaian is both phonetically and grammatically innovative: it has a simpler tone system than the other Amaian lects while introducing a series of palatalized consonants. It has regularized morphology and drastically streamlined syntax, all while approaching agglutination to a degree not seen in the other daughters. Lexically, it has borrowed heavily from the native languages of the area, which belong to several unrelated phyla.
While Northern Amaian is spoken as a first language by a relatively small number of humans in Amaia and Yerlan, within Amaia it serves as a trade language for almost the entire north, and so is spoken as a second language by many millions more.
