In romanizations, stress is unmarked.
The placement of stress depends on the number of syllables:
  • one syllable: stressed if long vowel.
  • two syllables: stressed on first syllable.
  • three syllables: The stress falls on the second syllable.
  • Any word more than three syllables is stressed on the third.
  • EXCEPTION: "ā" almost always takes primary stress.
  • EXCEPTION: verbs, types 1-4 of which always put primary stress on the second syllable.

Secondary stress is context-based and changes depending on the sound of the rest of the word.
