Particles in Setarian
The Basic Sentence :
kemkai (wu) koquc (ro) orzei.
/kemkai ɯ: kojɯk ɻo oɻzei/
Kemkai (uu) koyuc (ro) orzei.
This is the most basic sentence structure in Setarian, following the typical SOV word order.
(wu)
(uu)
Subject marker. Always follows the subject of the sentence. Does the verbing.
(ro)
(ro)
Object marker. Follows the object of the sentence that is getting verbed.
Therefore
kemkai (is) koyuc (gets/is) ozei
I (is) chicken (gets/is) eat.
I eat chicken.
"I" is the subject who eats. The object eaten is "chicken."
The subject can be dropped, if this is the case it is assumed to be the speaker or the last mentioned subject.
baitraic (ro) ozei.
/baitɻaik ɻo ozei/
Baitraic (ro) ozei.
I eat goat.
Cause and Effect
meftaka (za) kemnah (i) henpycse (wu) zirkuxt (ul)(ky) kemkai (ez) gaovikuxi.
/meʃtaka za kemnah i henpɪkse ɯ: ziɻkɯkzt ɯlkɪ kemkai ez gaovikɯkzi/
meshtaka (za) kemnah (i) henpycse (uu) zirkuxt (ul)(ky) kemkai (ez) gaovikuxi.
This sentence can be broken into two; The reason, and the result.
The Reason:
meshtaka (za) kemnah (i) henpycse (uu) zirkuxt
The Result:
kemkai (ez) gaovikuxi
Because, Due to:
(ul)(ky)
baanobae (ez) dizimaovii (ul)(ky) dizushy (i) nebogyla (uu) derge.
(I/we) cancel prophecy class due to unforeseeable circumstances.
(ul)(ky) is a combination particle, rare but possible. The original usage for (ul) and (ky) is ( 404 : NOT FOUND / PENDING / LOST TO TIME ). Now, it serves to embed a "Because" sentence before the normal state. I eat goat because it is delicious.
Time:
ishtaka (za)
Today ...
laka (i) teko (za)
One day ago ...
erdaka (i) teoh - kemza (ro) zirxt (za)
Five days before she dies ...
meshtaka (za)
That day ...
Back then...
That day of yore ...
(za)
(za)
Time is a place. (za) Is like the English word 'at'. Time can get full-embedded sentence fancy, but the end of the clause indicating the when/where will always be (za). Unless (za) is dropped and implied.
meshtaka (za) kemnah (i) henpycse (uu) zirkuxt (ul)(ky)
Because at that day of yore my sister's son died,
...kemkai (ez) gaovikuxi.
Capability:
(ez)
(ez)
Just because I can dance, doesn't mean I will dance. It is more likely than not, though. (ez) replaces the particle (uu) that marks the subject. It's not grammatically incorrect to use (uu)(ez) but that combination of particles is not common at all.
kemkai (ez) hisi.
I can dance.
I (capable) dance.
With a negative onto the verb, the subject is NOT capable anymore.
hensa (ez) hisivii.
He can't dance.
meshtaka (za) kemnah (i) henpycse (uu) zirkuxt (ul)(ky) kemkai (ez) gaovikuxi.
Because at that day of yore, my sister's son died, so I wasn't able to cry.
