The ancestry of Garomic can be traced back to the earliest member of the Dweric family, the proto-Dweric language. Proto-Dweric first emerged some time during the 21st century of the second era. It was spoken in the Irapush Mountains region, and was spoken by the entirety of the the dwarvish population at the time, who lived in nomadic tribes. The language began to develop into a number of dialects, and by the 41st century, it had evolved into a handful of distinct languages. When the first dwarven empire, Thugh Kuldor, conquered most of the dwarven peoples in the 45th century, the languages were spread far and wide, first into the Harak desert, and then into the continents of Creasou and Kel'me.
Garomic belongs to the Kel'meic branch of the Dweric family, with the dwarves arriving in the region which would later be known as Dher Garom between the 50th and 55th centuries. At the time, this region was under the rule of Elenae Falenôr, the Elvish Alliance, and there were some conflicts between the new immigrants the natives. Garomic, as well as the other languages of the Kel'meic branch, contains many elven loanwords due to the close proximity with their language, especially Caeloran in the case of Garomic.
At this point, the Dwarves of Dher Garom, Deghguruhm and Fladirkin spoke in mutually intelligible dialects of the Kel'meic Dwarven, however human began migrating into Kel'me as well, and drove a wedge between southern and northern dialects, and over the centuries these have drifted into seperate branches of the language. With Elenae Falenôr collapsed from human invasion, the Garomic dwarves now lost their border with the elves, and now instead were bordering the human tribes. A large portion of Dher Garom became an territory of the human Thevesterian Empire when it was conquered in 9866. However, the nation remained largely autonomous, and thus the language was not heavily impacted. However, there are some loanwords which have been incorporated into the language. The 10,000's marked the end of the 2nd Era.
In the 3rd Era, Garomic developed into two dialects, Inner and Outer Garomic. Inner Garomic experienced a consonant shift, while Outer Garomic's proximity to the human-inhabited areas lead to more and more loanwords being adopted.
