Usage notes:
In informal situations, the two present tenses are interchangeable, and dropping the "nie-" affix is acceptable. However, in more formal conversations, the following applies:
Present Simple - for stating general facts, describing rules of nature, unchangeable states, habits that are unlikely to change, expression of annoyance at s/o's actions.
Present Progressive - for actions being performed at the moment of speaking, easily changed habits, ephemeral states.

While there are two present tenses, past and future exist in their singular forms, as actions that have happened or are about to happen are not treated as unchangeable, and past or future states are not permanent.
