The standard Yawuybal alphabet, the one taught in schools, is as follows:
A (yá), B (bay), D (day), G (kí), I (yí), J (jay), K (kay),
L (yal), M (mam), N (nan), RR (yarrbulá), U (yú), W (waw), Y (yay)


But this spelling is used for clarification or in a formal or business situation. In everyday life, people actually have their own variations on spelling, most of which are based on the Latin alphabet, but occasionally some other script is used if it is preferred.
This dictionary as well as the Yawuybal entries of Colour My World are written in the standard spelling to avoid confusion, but an occasional shortening or contraction of a word may be present in text, which is then specified in the dictionary.

Yawuybal has four places of articulation: bilabial, alveolar, palatal and velar.
There are nasals and obstruents for each place:
