About Yotoga
Yotoga is a Papuan language spoken by about 8,600 people on the northern end of the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia. A member of the North Halmahera language family, it is related to the Ternate and Tidore languages, the former of which has influenced Yotoga through the Ternate Sultanate. The language also has lexical influence from Indonesian/Malay (the current official language), English (a global language) and Dutch (their former colonial language), as well as small-scale metatypy from surrounding Austronesian languages. The earliest speakers of Yotoga migrated from northern Halmahera in the Maluku Islands to the northern tip of Sulawesi.
