About Shihgeh This is the "standard" variety of the language of the Shihgeh population. As the language varies from tribe to tribe, it is not indicative of all words in all dialects. But it contains all of the possible phonemes in Shihgeh, and is an adequate lingua franca.
As for the language itself, it is mildly agglutinative, with a SOV word order and two verb tenses. It is simple to learn as far as patterns, but the phonology may be somewhat offputting to a human student.
In local governments near the Cascade region, police and officials are required to learn basic Shihgeh.

Phonology
[view]Phonological System: ShihgehThe Shihgeh are a race of near-humanoid "reptilians," who are unique in that they do not possess a typical human mouth. However, they do have a set of mandibles, with a narrow tubular opening between them which pumps food down into a gullet; as well as this they have two nasal passages, one whose job is to filter and another whose job is to suck in insects.
The Shihgeh have lived on Earth since at least the mid-1800s. Settlers in the Cascade mountains have reported seeing "tall green men" in the woods at night. Due to the two species' proximity to one another, the Shihgeh are believed to have come into contact with the Uhyzkurukan, and so far have been the only species to fight them in open combat and win. However, Shihgeh are generally friendly to humans, and have been known to allow humans into their tribal circles. Thus it has come to pass that linguists have been able to describe their language, which they have reported as being similar to many Earth languages in structure.
Shihgeh's consonants are mostly clicks of some description, produced either by contraction of their mouth tubes plus an ingressive airflow, collision of their mandibles, or both at once. Other consonants include "fricatives," articulated by contracting the mouth tube to different levels; stops, articulated by stopping up different areas of their mouth tube; and nasals, articulated by closing the mouth tube completely and letting air flow through either or both of their nasal passages. The top passage is found to be more sonorant, that is it can produce the most and greatest variety of sounds. Vowels are when every opening is held slack and air is allowed to flow completely freely.
Humans can and have approximated the sounds that Shihgeh produce; however, it takes much training for a non-click language speaker, and the binasals require double the amount of airflow for a human nose. Therefore, only limited speech has been synthesized between humans and Shihgeh.
