About Galapagan Galapagan (Galapagan:Ke 'eo Ka'apakō) is an Eastern Polynesian language spoken in the Galapagos Islands by the indigenous Galapagan people. Closely related to the Rapanui language of Easter Island, Galapagan is spoken within the boundaries of the Galapagos Islands Territory in Equador. The Galapagos were settled by Polynesian voyagers originating from Easter Island around 1200 AD. The Language experienced a sharp decline following Spanish colonization of the archipelago in 1570, before undergoing revitalization in the 1970s. Approximately 3000 of the 13,000 inhabitants of the Galapagos are able to speak the language fluently, with 500 of those being native speakers.
