About Ɔ Ñi
A descendant of Wa Ñi. Spoken in Tɛax Ŋàw (modern southern Magali) in the lowland savanna, in the year -1000 to -500 or so.
It has become fusional and its tone system has become quite complex as a result of tones shifting left. The number of vowels has dramatically increased as a result of consonants changing the quality, then disappearing, as well as diphthong reduction.
A system of consonant gradation has begun to develop due to certain former syllable-final consonants only being realized before another consonant.
The noun class system has become somewhat smaller, but more irregular. Verbs conjugate for person/number/class, and serial verb constructions have begun to fossilize into a system of clitics and affixes.
The highly limited derivational morphology of Wa Ñi has become more complex, especially in the realm of body part affixes.
