About Felinese
The felin. A curious species, peaceful on the surface... but just as often violent and cunning. Felin have no gods, only heroes, and an insatiable curiosity.
Felinese, properly felinvol, «felinvol», is spoken by the people of the Firrhna star system and the Felin Space Councils. It is a relatively simple yet at times quirky language developed from the earlier Upperspeech (feavol) and Lowerspeech (lāboru) over the course of untold generations.
Felinese was originally written in the logographic script of Lowerspeech, but now all but the Scholars write almost exclusively in a heavily-trimmed version of the Upperspeech alphabet, leaving only a handful of logographs in common knowledge and use.
The felin are trappy alien catfolk — take your average catfolk, add a heaping helping of Greco-Japanese and the 70's, and make it next to impossible to tell the males from the females. Specifically, they're not so much androgynous as gynomorph, yet flat-chested — as long as they're wearing pants you'd be hard pressed to tell that's a dude you're chatting up. The simple fact that they don't "get" gender-specific clothing certainly wouldn't help much.
