About Standard Bodin
The standardized official international language of the ruling noble classes of the civilizations on the planet Clespix I aka Boden in my sci-fi universe.
Aka "I have fun with affixes and steal vocabulary from Lojban."
- VSO word order
- head-initial everything
- all your /ʃ/ and /s/ are belong to us
- adjectives follow the noun
- genitive case nouns also follow the noun they belong to, and for all intents and purposes are treated as adjectives (& vice versa)
- verbs are starting to subsume their affixed pronouns; in a few hundred years, will probably be a pro-drop language with verb endings for person and number, but not today, not yet, the nominative pronouns will not go gentle into that good night,
- what is article??
- only uses copula when assigning inherent/permanent qualities; copula dropped when assigning transient qualities. (cf. the ser vs. estar distinction in Spanish.)
- nouns and pronouns inflect for singular, dual, plural, and collective; 1st person du/pl/coll inclusive is the reflexive pronoun inflected for du/pl/coll
- animate/inanimate distinction in 3rd person
- question particles: yes/no, general, rhetorical/sarcastic
I have been informed that the flag is ugly. I did not plan this, but I'm rolling with it, because it's extremely in-character for the late Carebin Empire (whose widespread conquests led to Standard Bodin, a simplified form of the Carebin language, becoming the official worldwide lingua franca in the first place) to impose a fuck-ugly flag on their member states.
