Nouns don’t distinguish between gender or animacy

Nouns inflect for number and construct state. The construct state is often used for compound words.

Most nouns form the plural and the construct state by adding suffixes; however, some nouns form the plural and the construct state by interal vowel change.



Verbs conjugate according to tense and trigger. Below are the affixes for the tenses and the focuses:

Agent focus:
- non-past: n-/-Ø(triggers eclipse of the initial consonant of the verb)
- past: na-(stem)-á(triggers lenition of the initial consonant of the verb)

Patient Focus:
- non-past: -aid/-id
- past: -áid/-eáid(triggers lenition of the initial consonant of the verb)

Locative Focus:
- non-past: -ath/-eath
- past: -áth/-eáth(triggers lenition of the initial consonant of the verb)

Benefactive Focus:
- non-past: mi-
- past: mi-(stem)-á(triggers lenition of the initial consonant of the verb)

Instrumental focus:
- non-past: bi-
- past: bi-(stem)-á/(triggers lenition of the initial consonant of the verb)

Reason Focus:
- non-past: la-
- past: la-(stem)-á(triggers lenition of the initial consonant of the verb)
