The dative construction exists in Town Speech/Urban Basanawa, although mostly restricted to few verbs, and the dative pronouns are always identical to the accusative pronouns.

In the dative construction, the verb always agrees with the morphological subject, and the morphological subject are places after the verb.

The dative construction is used on the verb ゑいざん "to be", when the dative construction is used, it indicates the feeling of the subject; while the nominative subject indicates the characteristics or quality of the subject. Compare the following sentences:

- 「吾びん悪と」 - /ɪk bɪn slɪçt/ - 1.SG.NOM be.PRES.1.SG bad
- 「我いす悪と」 - /mɪ ɪs slɪçt/ - 1.SG.DAT/ACC be.PRES.3.SG bad

In the first sentence, the subject is in the nominative case, which implies that the speaker has a personality that makes him/her bad; while in the second sentence, the subject is in the dative/accusative case, which implies that the speaker feels bad.

The subject which is in the dative/accusative case behave like other subjects, and can control the complements in verbal phrases with verbs in infinitive forms:

- 「我いす過う悪とうむと行ああんと泳いんまん」 - /mɪ ɪs tu: slɪçt ʊm tə gɑ:n tə swɪmmən/ - "I feel too bad to go swimming"

Besides ゑいざん "to be", the dative construction is also used on the verbs 好あっら゚ん "to like" and でぃんかん "to seem, to think". For example:

- ネプギア言ぐど「我好あっる゚と我いお姉ちゃん」 - /nepgɪa sɛçt mɪ gəfaɫt maɪ ɔne:t͡ʃan/ - Nepgear say-PST.3.SG 1.SG.DATACC like.PRES-3.SG 1.SG.POSS older.sister - Nepgear said "I like my big sis."
- いんでぃんくとだ嵐せぃいる大と - /ɪn dɪŋkt də stɔɹm si:ɹ gɹu:t/ - 3.SG.DAT/ACC think.PRES-3.SG the storm very big - he/she thinks that the storm is very big.
